Jakarta – Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana (BNPB) mengingatkan masyarakat sekitar Bromo untuk waspada karena status gunung tersebut telah menjadi awas. BNPB merasa belum perlu mengimbau warga mengungsi.

“Perlu saya jelaskan bahwa status Gunung Bromo saat ini adalah awas. Namun pengungsian tidak perlu dilakukan,” ujar Kepala BNPB Syamsul Ma’arif dalam raker dengan Komisi III DPR di Gedung DPR, Senayan, Rabu (14/11/2010).

Dengan meningkatnya status Bromo secara kontinyu selama beberapa hari terakhir hingga kini berada di level awas, Syamsul meminta penduduk sekitar untuk berhati-hati dan selalu peka terhadap gejala alam yang ada.

Berdasar keterangan yang dihimpun BNPB dari Pusat Kepala Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Badan Geologi (PVMBG), kata Syamsul, belum merasa perlu untuk mengimbau masyarakat sekitar.

PVMBG secara rutin memantau setiap detil aktivitas dari Bromo dari waktu ke waktu.
PVMBG menilai awan panas yang diluncurkan Gunung Bromo, jarak luncurnya masih jauh untuk dapat menjangkau pemukiman penduduk.

“Saya terus berkomunikasi dengan Pak Surono (Kepala PVMBG). Menurutnya penduduk tidak perlu mengungsi karena jarak awan panas berkisar 3 kilometer,” kata Syamsul.

Syamsul meminta wisatawan yang biasa diperbolehkan mendekati gunung kali ini dilarang. Alasannya,  jika berada terlalu dekat dengan gunung dalam status awas maka potensi bahayanya cukup besar.

“Saya minta turis jangan diperbolehkan mendekat,” kata Syamsul.
